July poll from YouGov

Pinch, punch, first of the month and following a lengthy absence we have another #indyref poll.

This time the Times have commissioned another YouGov poll. You may remember the last poll was also conducted by YouGov, which means this is the first time we’ve seen back-to-back polls from the same company.

The results are as followed:

Yes — 35% (-1)

No — 54% (+1)

Don’t Knows — 11 (no change)

This latest YouGov poll marks No’s highest poll placing since September 2013 and sees a slip in Yes support from their high mark of 37% in March 2014.

The current trend looks more encouraging for Better Together than the Yes campaign as further questions contained in the poll concerning the economy appear to back this up. Just 27% believe that Scotland would be better off economically (a drop of 3% from March) with 49% (+4) believing an independent Scotland would be worse off.

This poll suggests that Better Together’s tactic of focusing on the economy is beginning to bear fruits with the voting public.
